How to Get Executive Job Leads

by Christine C. Bitoon

For executives, a job search is beyond simply drafting a resume and sending it out blindly to as many companies as you want. Discretion is now  required as your name is already established. If you are in a situation where the next best move is to jump ship, how and where do you start?

The Internet

The World Wide Web is now everybody’s go-to guy. Even at the stage where you have not completely decided on transferring to a new  company, you may already have keyed in the phrase “manager jobs” in the Search bar. There are now numerous job search websites that  enable both employers and job seekers find what they are looking for. Sign up for one that specializes in executive jobs to have a targeted job  search.

One caveat though is that you should be careful in putting yourself out in the Internet, especially when your career stage is already at the top or  near it. You may place your career in jeopardy if you carelessly send your resume out or email companies at random. Think through every email  that you send out. As easy as email application seems, it should not be taken lightly by an executive like you.

Also be careful of fake websites that only aim to get your information. Before you submit your resume or even your email address to a job search  site, research about it by asking around. The Internet is now as cunning as it is convenient, so take extra care when conducting an  online job search.

Colleagues

Create a network of professionals that are in the same league as you are. Your colleagues will be the best source of information regarding job  openings and even positions that are yet to be created, such as a director job in an international company that is setting up shop in the country. If  you know ten people who themselves know ten more, you instantly get more than a hundred contacts in your industry!

Interact with work acquaintances outside of your job seeking goals. Do them a favor and extend help whenever you could and see how  assistance will come around when you need it. Join corporate events and meet as many people as possible. Connect through social media and  stay updated – then you will have the best leads ahead of everybody else in your field.

Find a professional organization in your field and join. These organizations usually have job postings on their website, as well as a resume  exchange program which you can take part of. This gives you a more targeted job search, since you can be sure that only top jobs in your  industry are able to penetrate your organization. Aside from leads, you can also have an enriching relationship with the members as you  exchange insights and ideas about your industry.

Job leads are opportunities that you can try to seize. The more you have, the better chances you get of landing a job in a company that will reward you financially as well as in terms of career growth.
