Our client, a very large and fast-expanding semiconductor manufacturing facility in China, is searching for a Chief Information Officer. The company, with investments from the regional government, technology institutes, and other investors are on a very aggressive expansion plan to rapidly capture market share and to be the top semiconductor company in China.

Reporting to the CEO, this position will oversee an entire team of more than 200 persons, across the various offices. The ideal candidate is one who has extensive experience leading a large organisation, currently a deputy CIO or its equivalent, and having worked with manufacturing companies that have locations in various sites, and ideally someone from the semiconductor industry.

The CIO, in this senior leadership role, will have the responsibility to set the IT technological direction and strategy, to plan policies and programs, to see to their implementation and success, so as to achieve the corporate objectives and mission. This person will then be expected to lead and drive through these IT activities and he is expected to be an expert in IT infrastructure, systems and software packages.

Other functions include, but not limited to, developing and implementing new applications to current IT systems so as to improve efficiency, providing consultation to other department heads on IT solutions to improve overall effectiveness, optimizing IT architecture and infrastructure for cost-effective performance, managing the various SAP activities and related projects across the various sites, and to lead the team to ensure that all the ERP needs are fully met.

The incumbent is expected to have an excellent communication ability, and possesses strong inter-personal skill-sets, as working closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors/third party business associates are key.

The ideal candidate must have a Bachelor in IT or its equivalent, having a Masters in IT or MBA or MSc would be an advantage. He/She must have worked for a large manufacturing organisation, with prior 5 years in a senior capacity in IT and leading a big team. Familiarity with manufacturing methodologies like Six Sigma and quality tools like ISO/TS would be ideal, and the company is particularly keen if you have previous semiconductor manufacturing environment background. Based in China, proficiency in both English and Chinese are necessary.
