The National Institute of Education (NIE) invites suitable applications for the position of Assistant Head in the Office of Strategic Planning & Academic Quality (SPAQ). This position is on a 2-year contract.


• Assist and support the HOD / Supervising Officer in the oversight and execution of NIE’s strategic planning processes such as trend research / analysis; benchmarking; preparing strategy or position papers, reports & presentations; and organising / facilitating high level meetings and events
• Provide secretariat support and follow-through for key senior management meetings
• Assist in the development of the NIE Strategic Roadmap, and the monitoring and reporting of strategic initiatives and priorities
• Assist and support in conceptualising, organising and managing appropriate strategic engagement activities for NIE senior management, appointment holders, and senior staff – including management retreats, annual strategic reviews, annual addresses, etc.
• Support the HOD / Supervising Officer and partner other key process owners in formulating and executing the Annual Work Planning and Budgeting Cycle
• Support and facilitate specific corporate project initiatives arising from the Strategic Plan such as Steering Committees / Taskforces / Programme Reviews / Strategic Projects
• Assist in ad-hoc or special projects / corporate events


• A university degree
• At least 3 to 5 years’ relevant working experience, with a strong interest and track record in strategic planning and/or organisational development
• Excellent conceptualising, analytical and writing skills
• Proficiency in MS Office with some working knowledge of document / information management systems
• Working knowledge of statistics and/or data analysis would be advantageous
• Meticulous, with good organisational skills
• Strong team player with a pleasant disposition
• Adaptable to change, able to work under pressure and to meet tight timelines
• Willingness to learn, develop capabilities, acquire and share new knowledge
• Values and attributes demonstrating integrity, professionalism, adaptability and willingness to go the extra mile
• Working experience in a publicly-funded educational institution may be useful but not mandatory
