The main daily responsibility of the PS Programme Manager is the management of multiple related projects, which are directed toward a common objective.
What you'll be doing
Provide pre-sales support
There is an expectation for the PS Programme Manager to engage with the Pre-Sales & Sales teams in order to adequately scope and cost project and programme solutions. The pre-sales scoping would involve the completion of a proposal that includes the detailed task schedules, resource allocation, an integrated programme schedule and cost breakdown and all inter-project dependencies.
During programme delivery or client engagement, the PS Programme Manager is expected to identify opportunities and influence the sale by conducting a business conversation with the client and positioning Dimension Data’s consulting and professional services offerings.
Ensure programme delivery
The PS Programme Manager teams with Project Managers (who are responsible to the PS Programme Manager for the execution of their project and its impact on the programme) to monitor cost, schedule, quality and technical performance of constituent projects, while working to ensure the ultimate success of the programme. He or she takes ownership of the full execution of programmes in their environment. In the case of a partnership, this individual is responsible for the co-ordination of Change Control as it relates to professional services activities and takes ownership of the project completion and transition to service operation for business as usual activities.
The individual adheres to and ensures that the project delivers the as-sold solution, remains within budget, is delivered on time, while achieving quality criteria and maintaining client satisfaction. This individual will manage delivery of the programme according to the PMBOK or programme standards or portfolio standards and knowledge areas and in line with Dimension Data’s Primer methodology. This includes rigorous programme scope control and management of change variations. They also communicate with key stakeholders regarding the status of their programmes. Programme set-up, resources and operations are efficiently managed, possibly with the assistance of the Project Coordinator or Administrator. Within the programme, they focus on and manage the benefits realisation expected from the programme, particularly on the outcomes and not just the outputs.
Manage resources / people
PS Programme Managers are responsible for assisting with the determining and coordinating of the sharing of resources among their constituent projects to the overall benefit of the programme. They take accountability for the co-ordination of the activities of the project teams through task delegation, resource assignment and programme management. These individuals will actively coach and mentor junior project managers and employees working towards a career in project management. The individual needs to be able to lead teams effectively within a matrixed environment. They act as people managers and provide feedback to the relevant line managers.
The PS Programme Manager ensures that the project team has access to the programme management tools and have the general means to perform their role.
The PS Programme Manager acts as the central point of contact for all Dimension Data led projects that constitute their programme. The individual also demonstrates a strong ability to engage with various stakeholders and takes responsibility for stakeholder engagement and management, particularly external stakeholders, including those within the account where applicable. The PS Programme Manager engages with various stakeholders to ensure understanding and alignment of the client’s vision and strategy to programme deliverables. The individual manages client satisfaction, commitment and expectations to high service levels and manages escalations adequately. They act as the single point of contact between Dimension Data and the client whilst taking accountability for all escalations relating to the programme. These individuals also ensure that the programme team displays the right level of client engagement.
They ensure adherence to quality standards and review project deliverables and may communicate with a company executives regarding the status of specific projects. The individual promotes project services to both external and internal parties/clients. This individual evaluates and communicates the return on investment (ROI) of the programme and ensures that the client’s strategic objectives have been met.
The individual possesses advanced communication, influencing and negotiating and influencing ability, displaying confident and credible writing and verbal ability. They display strategic thinking capability with an outcomes focus and results orientation. They are detailed and meticulous and highly organised individuals.
As corporate citizens they act as role-models to the teams, they display assertiveness and act as an example when it comes to client satisfaction. They are motivational and inspirational leaders with superior decision making skills and assertiveness. The individual is competent in project change management and demonstrates excellent team leadership, motivation ability and business acumen. The individual has an excellent understanding of the project life cycle and takes responsibility for all aspects of the full life-cycle of the assigned projects. They are proactive in their approach and demonstrate good facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills. The individual works towards advanced programme management certification, e.g. PgMP.
