MAIN JOB PURPOSE
Unilever’s Supply Chain and Procurement organisation is a global operation consisting of over 250 factories and over 400 warehouses, procuring billions of euros of goods and services and delivering over 4.5bn cases of products across more than 210,000 locations. The Supply Chain is supported by a specialist, lean global legal team business partners, called the Supply Chain Legal Team located in Singapore, Switzerland, London, Rotterdam, New York and Dubai.
Based in Singapore, this position fits into the wider team as follows:
Reports to Southeast Asia Australasia (SEAA) Supply Chain General Counsel and the Global Supply Chain General Counsel
Member of the global Supply Chain Legal team and of the broader global legal function, cooperating with: Asia lawyers network, category lawyers, Supply Chain network lawyers, patent/IP specialists and other legal colleagues
Focuses on supporting, as legal business partner, SEAA Procurement and Supply Chain as well as global buying officers and related support functions such as operations and finance teams
Strong emphasis on supporting regional and global procurement teams in the drafting of bespoke and heavily modified contracts across a wide range of subject matter
Comfortable with minimal supervision to draft, review and redraft through to completion a wide range of complex commercial contracts. Common subject matter areas are global and regional purchase contracts, sale contracts to Unilever and third party customers, leases etc.
Provides clear hands-on, business-oriented support for major procurement transactions in Asia and globally
Identifies legal risks and provides the business with creative but legally compliant solutions
Creates clear risk analysis and guidance for a non-legal audience
Enhances procurement and supply chain way of working by establishing good governance practices and providing support and training to ensure compliance
Implements capability-building initiatives for the business and across the legal function to drive excellence and efficiency
Actively promotes and facilitates close collaboration between local legal teams in the Markets with the Supply Chain Legal team in supporting Supply Chain activities and projects
Provides first point of contact advice for quality and delay claims and disputes, supports analysis of claims and the drafting of claims and settlement letters
Academic degree in Law, bar qualification (any jurisdiction)
At least 5 years of experience in legal advisory and drafting work
Strong demonstrated business acumen and sound cross-cultural skills
Experience of drafting and negotiating major and complex contracts, ideally with direct experience of international sales transaction, logistics, warehousing, real estate and equipment leasing, logistics and warehousing contracts, manufacturing outsourcing contracts, structured transactions and renewable power projects, and other transactions related to raw materials and finished goods supply contracts
A willingness to work a flexible working day, since some evening telephone calls (from home) are often needed during Monday-Thursday for effective communication with global team members and business partners
Ability to work with colleagues and internal clients across multiple timezones and jurisdictions
