Learning encompasses programmes at three levels: Doctoral, Masters and Professional, for Arup staff across in its 30 countries around the world.

Professional Development encompasses formal and informal learning across Arup, providing staff with the skills, knowledge and behaviours to carry out day-to-day work. The focus of this role is on growing technical and specialist training across all of our skills networks and regions. The team works with internal subject matter experts to diagnose, design, deliver and evaluate technical and specialist learning.

This role requires the candidate to manage the process, budget and stakeholders involved in diagnosing, designing, delivering and evaluating learning.


Responsible for managing the development of Arup University Technical and Specialist Modules in region. This includes:


Diagnosing Learning Needs

Review, support and track the portfolio of technical offerings for all Skills Networks (SN) to ensure all learning activities meet the ongoing needs of the designated Region.
Contribute to quarterly Global Skills Network learning reviews from a region perspective.
Promote a philosophy of ongoing review with all Skill Network Leaders to check the status of all learning programmes (access, usage, completion etc) and change as necessary.
Support the development of learning paths into meaningful frameworks for technical learning in the Region, including working with SNs to ensure regional paths are up to date and reflect current course offerings internally and externally.
Advise SNs on courses available globally and in other regions that meet SN learning needs.
Supporting Australasia SN in relation to regional prioritisation and managing workload accordingly.
Region-specific additions (Australasia)

Increased focus on Regional Skills Networks, in accordance to regional prioritisation and manage workload accordingly.
Deep engagement with the Regional Arup University team including with the Learn team.
Responsible for designing the Design School program and outcomes (1 x 3 day event per year).
Innovating with Learning - development and regional implementation of other learning events to support a culture of learning and leveraging off existing opportunities.
Other Learning projects to be identified in consultation with the business and through ideas generation.
Designing Learning

Where the need is from one specific region or is primarily focused in the designated region, undertake design activity with trainers/course designers. Advise on methodology and contribute to the early design thinking on the programme.
Assist trainers with the quality of their design materials, the writing of learning objectives and training plans.
Encourage the correct learning method for the topic and need. Promote informal methods for the purposes of ‘passing information’ vs skills based training.
Work collaboratively with trainers to design online programmes using Moodle.
Undertake design reviews with trainers in the development of new programmes to ensure objectives and materials are congruent.
Facilitate regional accreditation, which could include sign off of materials (in agreement with regional Learning and Development team) (L&D)
Work with regional Learning & Development to advertise through the appropriate channels.
Challenge activity that is not adding value/is stagnant and collaborate on alternative approaches.
Work with Global colleagues to enable Globalisation/Regionalisation of technical programmes and advise regional trainers on the benefits of this approach.
Collaborate with Global L&D colleagues around trends and themes emerging from the Region and influence the wider technical strategy for learning.
Contribute to the design of global Arup University (AU) courses and resources for Subject Matter Experts and SNs.
Sign off materials for accreditation
Delivering Learning
Deliver Train the Trainer and other AU programmes designed to support course designers/trainers within their designated region.
Proactively support the delivery of regional virtual classroom courses using Adobe Connect.
Support ‘first runs’ of face-to-face classroom courses with trainers and facilitate review of feedback to ensure that quality of delivery is established early on. Services can include observation/attendance at first run for priority networks/programmes but will not be standard for all courses.
Evaluating Learning
Advise on the appropriate method of evaluation aligned with regional guidelines to demonstrate skill/knowledge transfer and return on investment.
Engage in evaluation reviews with trainers and SNL’s as part of a wider review of technical learning strategy.
Report Globally and Regionally, as required, including as part of broader Arup University reporting requirements to demonstrate return on investment and Business/Skills Network engagement.

Managing Internal Funding Mechanism

Advise Skills Networks and course designers on the Arup University funding mechanism.
Contribute to quarterly funding reviews and take forward agreed actions for the region.
Review spend of design funding during regular check-ins with designers.
Review spend of course delivery budgets for regional courses to ensure courses are running sustainably.


Experience:
Experience of the full cycle of learning design – diagnosis, design, delivery and evaluation, for both face to face and e- learning
Project Management experience – proven ability to operate and lead a project through all its stages, from inception to post investment review
Stakeholder Management – Particularly managing requirements, helping to clarify needs and priorities, and managing expectations

Hands on experience of data management and reporting systems

Proven facilitation experience
