Institute for Adult Learning

Inspired by the 2002 ERC Report suggesting a CET organisation in Singapore, IAL was set up in collaboration with ITE and the polytechnics, and supported by WDA. Officially launched in 2008 by Acting Minister for Manpower, Mr Gan Kim Yong, our goal is to build a world class community of adult educators in Singapore.

Part of Singapore’s CET Masterplan, IAL’s mission is to grow, support and professionalise the adult educator community. Beyond offering courses and qualifications, we provide a framework for development, competencies, standards and qualifications.

Our professional membership scheme, the Adult Educators’ Network, provides access to our specialist library; while our research department works with trainees, businesses, industry sectors and government bodies to understand the impact of CET, with adult educators supporting action research.

We aim to be integral to the CET landscape, both in Singapore and internationally.
